The Wrangell Alaska region, including Wrangell-Elias National Park, is one of the most amazing, dramatic, and pristine areas in the world.
Wrangell-Elias National Park is the largest park in the entire United States. Wrangell-Elias, together with Glacier Bay and the nearby Kluane National Park and Tatshenshini-Alsek Park in Canada comprise the largest protected wilderness area in the world.
The region was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its unique and stunning geography and glaciation, along with its vast populations of grizzlies, Dall sheep, and caribou.
The Wrangell area contains nine of the sixteen tallest peaks in North America, including Mt. St. Elias (pictured above), which, at 18,008 feet is the second tallest mountain in the United States.
Vast glaciers wind their way down from the towering mountain peaks, continually changing the park’s magnificent landscape.
Wrangell is accessible by road from Anchorage, a 7-8 hour drive.
Two gravel roads run through the park, allowing access to many of its incredible wilderness areas.
Chartered planes also fly into the park from Anchorage and Chitina, Alaska.
The Wrangell-St. Elias region has been growing in popularity as on of the most remote and pristine yet readily accessible regions remaining on Earth.
A pre or post-cruise trip to Wrangell Alaska is certain to be a journey you will never forget.
