Anchorage weather is quite pleasant and frequently sunny in the summer months and colder and snowy in the winter months.
August and September are the rainiest months in Anchorage, with just over 2.5 inches of rain on average.
However, while the area receives consistent precipitation throughout the year, keeping it lush and green, it only receives about 15.5 inches of total precipitation per year, or about 1 inch more than Los Angeles.
Thus, Anchorage has its share of pleasant, dry days even in the wettest months of the year.
Summer is truly a beautiful time of year in the city, with temperatures generally topping out in the 60’s.

Late May, June, and Mid-July are great times to visit Anchorage and the surrounding region.
Precipitation is light during this time, averaging less than an inch of rain a month, days are long (with almost 20 hours of sunlight in late June), and the temperatures are very pleasant – perfect for exploring the region’s incredible natural beauty.
There are also fewer bugs in late spring, making it my favorite time of the year to explore lower Alaska.
Anchorage weather is probably far less extreme than you would imagine, and, in fact, is often quite perfect during the summer months, when the rest of the country is sweltering.
