Anchorage Lodging options are varied, ranging from luxury hotels to economy bed and breakfasts and a large selection of moderate hotels and motels in between.
If you are traveling to the city during the summer tourist season, you will find that prices are, in general, quite high.
Even a rather modest motel can cost $150 to $200 during the high tourist season, whereas the same room could cost half that much in the off-season.
However, Anchorage is the one truly cosmopolitan city in Alaska, and if you are looking for luxury accommodations, it is hard to find them outside the city limits (with the possible exception of several lodges in the vicinity of Denali National Park).
If money is not your chief concern, then you might want to investigate the Hotel Captain Hook, which is considered the ultimate luxury hotel in the city.
If you are looking to save on your lodging, then bed and breakfasts can be your best bet. In my experience, they offer far better value, dollar for dollar.
Whereas you would be hard pressed to find even an economy motel room for under $100 during the summer months, you can often find perfectly nice bed and breakfasts in this range.
In addition, B&Bs almost always provide free breakfasts, and many provide other amenities, such as high speed internet access.
If you would prefer to stay in a hotel or motel, then I would advise that you book early and do your research online to find the best rate.
Whatever you do, don’t wait until the last minute, as rooms sell out during the summer, and you could be faced with either an exorbitantly priced room or no room at all.
Anchorage lodging makes a great base from which to explore the outdoor wonders of lower Alaska – you get the best of both worlds here, with big city amenities and amazing natural scenery.
