Alaska Travel and Tourism Guide

Alaska travel and tourism options are almost endless, from amazing historic sites to breathtaking natural scenery.

There is an amazing variety of activities for people of all ages and physical abilities, from children to senior citizens, and everyone in between.

In fact, Alaska has been rapidly growing in popularity as a summer vacation destination over the past decade, so much so that many cruise ship cabins and even some on-shore activities are selling out many months in advance.

The most popular Alaska travel and tourism options are divided amongst three major regions:

  • The Inside Passage
  • Anchorage and Coastal Alaska
  • Denali and the Alaskan Interior

Each of these three regions has an enormous diversity of activities and attractions.

Below are some of the major tourist hotspots, by region, including options for families, adventure-seekers, and seniors.

The Inside Passage

This region, which runs from below Ketchikan in the south to Glacier Bay in the north, is one of the most spectacular in all of Alaska.

Other cities and towns in the region include Juneau, the state's beautiful capitol, Skagway, and Sitka, known for its world-class fishing.

The Inside Passage is comprised of a series of lush islands and fjords, which are still actively being carved by glaciers.

It is truly an amazing place to visit, with highlights being Tracy Arm Fjord, Misty Fjords National Monument, and Glacier Bay National Park.

Anchorage and Coastal Alaska

The Anchorage area is one of the most popular and easily accessible in Alaska.

The nearby Kenai Peninsula is incredibly beautiful, with its towering, snow-covered mountains and picturesque villages like Seward and Homer.

Denali and the Alaskan Interior

The interior of the state is a land of extremes, with bitter cold winters and soaring mountain peaks.

The best known of the mountains is Mt. McKinley in Denali National Park.

At over 20,000 feet, it is the tallest peak in North America and is an utterly amazing sight to behold.

Further north, the city of Fairbanks is known for its rugged rivers and stunning aurora borealis.

This is just a sampling of the many Alaska travel and tourism options.

Many more are covered on this site, from summer dog sledding to scuba diving.

There really is something for everyone in this incredible state.
