Alaska Salmon Fishing

A Guide to the Best Salmon Sportfishing

Alaska salmon fishing is the best in North America, with an incredible array of opportunities for both fresh water and salt water angling.

If you are planning an Alaska cruise, fishing charters are available as shore excursions during your days at the various ports.

Pre and post trip fishing excursions are also available out of Anchorage, Sweard, and Whittier.

Some of the best fresh water salmon fishing is available on the Kenai River, where King, Sockeye, and Silver (Coho) varieties are available.

More river fishing is available near Denali National Park and in the Fairbanks area.

There are also a wide variety of fishing lodges throughout Alaska, from the Inside Passage region in the south to Kodiak Island in the south west.

Throughout the state, non-Alaskans are limited to either one or two king salmon per trip, but catches of sockeye, silver, chum, and pink salmon are less restricted.

In the south east panhandle region (the Inside Passage), all five varieties are available out of most towns, but salmon are especially plentiful in Ketchikan and Sitka.

Overall, Alaska salmon fishing is incredible, with double and triple hookups common during peak seasons. If you love salmon, you have to get up to Alaska.
