Alaska Airlines

In my opinion, Alaska Airlines is simply the best air carrier to Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

The airline has a reputation for outstanding service and customer satisfaction, having earned high marks from some of the top travel publications, including Conde Nast Traveler.

Alaska Airlines

For many of the more out of the way locations in the region, this is simply the only carrier available.

Anchorage serves as a hub for many of these flights within the state, and Alaska Airlines also has the largest number of flights running between Anchorage and the lower 48 states.

For many of the small cities in the state, the airline serves as a lifeline, bringing in the majority of the mail along with many if not all of the perishable goods.

Alaska is the only major carrier to service the following cities in the region:

  • Juneau
  • Ketchikan
  • Sitka
  • Wrangell
  • Kodiak
  • Nome

Furthermore, Alaska runs the most flights into the following cities:

  • Anchorage
  • Fairbanks
  • Seattle

The airline also has many flights in and out of Vancouver, British Columbia, the most common starting point for Alaska cruises.

Alaska has one of the newest, most state-of-the-art fleets of planes of any major carrier, and they are currently in the midst of updating their fleet even more.

44 new Boeing 737-800′s were ¬†introduced into Alaska’s fleet by 2008, further enhancing their already young fleet of planes.

If you are looking to explore more of the Inside Passage than you are able to on a larger cruise, then flying directly into Juneau is a great way to go, and this airline is really the only major carrier that can get you there.

From Juneau, you can explore everywhere in the region via the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system, and through smaller charter and tour companies.

Alaska Airlines will get you wherever you want to go in Alaska, and, from my experience, they will get you there in style.
